Monica Powell PhD

Monica S. Powell, PhD is the Senior Associate Dean and Graduate Dean for the Naveen Jindal School of Management at the University of Texas at Dallas. Dr. Powell’s graduate business education experience spans nearly 35 years, during which time she has held senior roles at both SMU and UT Dallas. Her experience includes directing and managing Executive, Full-Time, Professional and Online MBA programs and undergraduate programs. Her responsibilities have included recruiting, administration, student services, curriculum management, assessment, and alumni relations. Dr. Powell also has corporate experience recruiting undergraduate and graduate students for a global financial services firm. An active member of the graduate business education industry, Dr. Powell has served as a board member of the EMBA Council. She has also planned conferences and conducted other support activities for the GMAC; and has participated in various initiatives with the AASCB. She has presented for all three organizations numerous times during the past three decades. Dr. Powell’s research focuses on managing student expectations prior to matriculation. In her role as the Senior Associate Dean at UT Dallas, Dr. Powell is responsible for program management, serving more than 9000 students, including undergraduate and graduate students in almost 30 academic degree programs as well as the school’s Career Management Center and Recruiting Department. In additional to her administrative duties, Dr. Powell also teaches at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Dr. Powell earned her PhD in Higher Education with a minor in Communications from the University of North Texas. She also earned a bachelor’s degree in communications and a master’s degree in advertising — both from the University of Alabama.
