Job Title: Associate Director, MBA Programs, Integrative Student Services

Summary: Responsible for successfully managing the day to day operations of a supportive, engaging, and inclusive MBA program experience. In collaboration with the Program Executive Director and the Integrative Student Services Center of Excellence, designs, develops, implements and evaluates programs and processes for program student support services. This key professional reports directly to the Executive Director of the Winston-Salem Evening MBA program, currently ranked #1 in the state of North Carolina.

Essential Functions:

  • Coordinates operational, logistical and administrative functions associated with the Evening MBA program student experience.
  • Develops and coordinates program student initiatives (e.g. new student orientation, team-building events, immersion logistics, milestone celebrations), including liaising with internal and external stakeholders where appropriate.
  • Works in an advising capacity with individual students, student teams, and student leaders.
  • Works directly to support and advocate for students in personal, social, or academic distress.
  • Manages regular program-wide communications that include a weekly newsletter, engagement and leadership opportunities, resources, upcoming events, feedback venues, as well as relevant deadlines/deliverables.
  • Works with the Winston-Salem program’s Executive Director to ensure a high quality day-to-day student experience in the degree program, communicating proactively about student successes, needs, and concerns.
  • Leads the planning and logistics of MBA Immersion trips (National and International) while supporting faculty trip leaders.
  • Initiates collaboration with and creatively engages colleagues serving in other functional areas (EM, MRE, Registrar, etc.) to realize excellence.
  • Occasional travel to Charlotte and surrounding area as needed for OneMBA meetings and collaboration
  • Leads and advises the Student Engagement Council
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Required Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Ability to effectively work with a diverse community of students, staff colleagues, and faculty members.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, including verbal and written communication, and listening capabilities.
  • Knowledge and understanding of academic cultures, rules, and regulations; including knowledge of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision on a variety of complex tasks concurrently.
  • Demonstrated ability to think critically and proactively problem-solve.
  • Knowledge of using data to improve decision making.

Preferred Education, Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Master’s degree in Management, student affairs/personnel administration or a closely related field, as well as three to five years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

The Associate Director of Admissions & Recruiting is responsible for implementing the recruiting and admissions plans for the Carlson School’s Master of Science (MS) programs, which include MS in Business Analytics, Master of Applied Business Analytics, MS in Finance, MS in Supply Chain Management, and Master of Marketing by attracting high quality candidates to apply to and attend the Carlson School. A particular focus of the role is developing strategic relationships across the U of MN and area campuses. The position develops and manages campus/class visit program, plans and hosts specialty recruiting events, and coordinates ambassador programs. The position may travel locally, nationally and internationally to recruit prospective students. The position also serves as a high-level advisor to candidates interested in the program, conducting extensive outreach with potential students via phone and email campaigns, meet with walk-in candidates, and respond to general inquiries from prospective students, applicants, and admitted students. The position coordinates MS programs application and interview process, conducts admissions interviews, reviews admissions applications, and provides admission recommendations.   • Organize, manage and develop special recruiting and yield events on and off campus.
  • Serve as manager of special recruiting events by developing, organizing and executing on campus events (i.e., campus preview events, admitted student yield events, class or campus visits, application and admissions test prep workshops, and conferences).

Recruiting (35%)

  • Develop and implement strategies to recruit and enroll a diverse and well-qualified student body for the MS programs. Particular emphasis is placed on developing relationships with colleagues at the University of Minnesota and regional campuses to enhance awareness of Carlson pre-professional programs with current undergraduate students.
  • Serve as a key advisor to all candidates interested in the MS programs. Correspond regularly with prospective students through use of multiple platforms. Advise candidates on MS degree value, career opportunities, program curriculum features, and application requirements.
  • Develop and manage campus/class visit program aimed at increasing awareness and interest in the Carlson MS programs.
  • Meet with prospective students through scheduled appointments as well as walk-ins.
  • Lead and present at MS program information sessions for prospective students.
  • Provide regular outreach to high potential candidates via phone or email (i.e. high GMAT/GRE test scores, identified high-potential applicants, etc.).
  • Participate in local physical & virtual recruiting events, such as lunches, coffee chats, education fairs, corporate visits, virtual information sessions and other recruiting yield events on and off campus to meet enrollment and yield goals set by the administration and faculty of the program.
  • Participate in domestic and international recruitment travel, representing the Carlson MS programs and cross-selling Carlson graduate programs as appropriate.
  • Plan recruitment travels, which can consist of admissions interviews, one-on-one meetings, informational lunches, alumni events and/or graduate fairs.
  • Manage current student and alumni Ambassador Programs for use in recruiting and admissions efforts.
  • Participate in and support MS programs social media efforts via recruiting chats, blogs, virtual fairs, Facebook & Instagram.
  • Provide support for other recruiting projects as needed.

Admissions (35%)

  • Coordinate MS programs application and interview process, correspond with applicants at every stage of the application process, continuing to recruit and sell the program.
  • Identify full-time MS applicants to invite for admissions interviews.
  • Conduct admissions interviews: on campus, off campus, or by Skype.
  • Serve as a voting member of the admissions committee.
  • Review admission applications and make decisions for acceptance or denial.
  • Provide recommendation for scholarship consideration.
  • Participate in the development of admissions and post-admission related materials and communications for newly admitted students.

Administrative & Leadership (15%)

  • Build relationship with students enrolled in the MS programs. Actively participate in student events organized by the MS programs.
  • Participate in new student orientations.
  • Coordinate updates of the programs’ websites, brochures, social media and other communication channels.
  • Supervise graduate assistants / students workers when needed.
  • Team with MS team to define and manage admissions and recruiting budget.
  • Participate in school-wide activities & committees as appropriate.
  • Participate in department projects/events as they arise and support as needed.
  • Represents the office at various internal and external events.

Qualifications

MINIMUM / ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree and at least four years of experience in higher education admissions, recruiting, student advising, relevant sales experience, or program administration
